Alexandre Family Farm Discontinued
November 19, 2025
Medford Food Co-op strives to do business better. We embrace honesty and transparency in each of our relationships and interactions with farmers, ranchers, vendors, customers, and staff. Guided by the cooperative principles, we do our absolute best to uphold our values each and every day, and take responsibility when things go awry.
In April 2024, one of our owners brought to our attention a lawsuit that had been filed against Alexandre Family Farm, as well as an article published in The Atlantic about the claims against Alexandre. This was the first we had heard of these allegations, and our team immediately read the linked articles and information available about the claims.
Because MFC has been purchasing local dairy products from Alexandre Family Farm for so many years, and because so many of our shoppers love their local dairy, we decided to give our buyers and managers adequate time to research the allegations and make an informed decision.
Based on what we’ve discovered in the last year and half, Alexandre Family Farm dairy products will no longer be available at Medford Food Co-op, effectively immediately. We are replacing Alexandre products with alternate A2 dairy products available in our supply chain.
Alexandre Family Farms is based in Crescent City, California and they oversee four large dairy farms totaling over 9,000 head of cattle. An official USDA investigation documented years of failing to adhere to Certified Humane and USDA Organic standards – both labels still displayed on Alexandre’s products today. The National Organic Program’s investigation cited numerous instances of inhumane practices and animal abuse.
In addition to these official findings from the USDA, further allegations detailed in lawsuits are incredibly disheartening. While Alexandre has admitted photographs in the lawsuits are from their properties, they either claim ignorance or blame improperly trained former employees, despite some practices being documented over a number of years.
Because Alexandre has been allowed to continue to use both the USDA Organic and Certified Humane claims while failing to adhere to the standards for years, we can not continue to offer their products in good conscience. Products that bear these labels tend to demand a premium price. We expect our vendors to accurately and honestly label their products, and reflect our shared values of self-responsibility, honesty, transparency, social responsibility, and caring for others.
We know you depend on us to research and vet the products we carry, so you can depend on the products we offer. We know our shoppers may want to choose alternate products given this information rather than paying a premium price for products not living up to the label’s standards. We encourage our shoppers to review the references available regarding Alexandre Family Farm. If you are an Alexandre customer disappointed by this news like we were, we encourage you to reach out to them to let them know you want local businesses to do better.
