CASA of Jackson County

Positive Change for CASA - Small red-haired child leans against a post.

Round up this June to help give abused children an effective voice and a mentor! CASA provides specially trained community volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in the pursuit of safe and permanent homes.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) are volunteers who speak for a child who has an open case of abuse and/or neglect in court. They meet with the child regularly, interface with physicians, hospitals, counselors, teachers, family, and more to ensure each child is accessing the services they need, that those services are coordinated and consistent, and the the full story of the child's journey is presented to the court for the Judge's informed decision making. They currently have over 180 CASA volunteers who advocate for over 650 local children annually, but 180 children are without a CASA due to funding shortages.

CASAs make a two year commitment and they are well-trained and supported through our office of professionals to ensure children remain safe and find permanent loving homes. 99.8% of children with a CASA will not experience re-abuse versus 91% without. CASAs form trusting relationships with their assigned youth and are often told by their youth that they changed their lives, even saved them in some cases. Positive Change funds will be used help train one or more culturally diverse CASAs to meet the cultural and advocacy needs of BIPOC children in their care.
